Barcelona closed the building official football academy La Masia, on Thursday (06/30/2011) at 12.00 local time. Starting Friday (01/07/2011), the activities of coaching young players will be conducted at the new location, Centre de Formacio Oriol Tort in Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper.
"Starting June 30, La Masia is no longer used young athletes, who trained to be part of this club's professional team. In a simple ceremony, still full of emotion, La Masia closed doors today," a statement on Barcelona's official website.
Vice President Field Sports Barcelona Josep Maria Bartomeu said, "This is a form of symbolic closure of La Masia. We moved and La Masia still have the success that has been achieved. Today, we are proud to show that we won 16 titles this season and with that success, many which must be a graduate of La Masia. "
